How To Get Started
Starting therapy can be an anxiety producing situation for anyone. Even making the decision to place the call can be stressful. To get started, simply call my office and leave a message. You can leave as much information as you would like as I am the only person who listens to this voicemail so your information is completely confidential. I will return your call usually by the end of the day (if you are calling during my normal business hours, Monday-Thursday, 8:30-6:30) or by the next business day. Once we find a time to talk on the phone I like to get a better understanding of what you are looking for in treatment to determine if I could be the right person for you. If so, we will schedule an initial intake appointment. I will ask you to complete the initial forms (on this website) and bring them with you to your first session along with your insurance card.
The First Appointment
At the first appointment, it is important that you feel comfortable with me and I get a better understanding of what you are looking for in therapy. Sometimes people are not entirely sure what their issues are or why they are struggling. They just want to feel better in general or more satisfied with their lives and relationships. Often one of the goals of therapy is to simply identify the problem or issues that need to be addressed.
At the end of the session, I will check in with you to see if you felt comfortable talking with me and in turn I will let you know if I think I may be a good person to help you. If we are both agreement that this is a good fit, we will set up a follow up appointment. If you do not feel as comfortable as you would like to with me or if I think that you may be better served by another colleague, I will be happy to provide you with names of colleagues who may be a better fit for you.
